Welcome to my website. I’m Dr. D. Shay Gable. I’m a clinical psychologist and co-founder and co-owner, as well as Clinical Director, of The Acacia Center in Evansville, IN. I love what I do, and I truly enjoy the many fascinating people I’ve come to know through my practice–both my clients and my talented staff. The journey I’ve taken to get here has had as  many twists and potholes and boulders across its path as any of my clients. I know what it’s like to live in a home filled with violence and denigration. I know the burning humiliation of standing in a food line, hoping no one I knew walked by as I waited, shivering in the cold or sweltering at the height of summer. I know how it feels to have to choose between groceries and heat.

I am glad to have moved beyond those limiting circumstances, but I’m also glad I had the experiences, because they give me an empathy for people who are suffering that I couldn’t have learned any other way. Along the way to here and now, I have been a childcare entrepreneur, a box-toe cementer in a shoe factory, a salesclerk, a freelance newspaper writer, a dog walker, a watercolorist, and a college instructor. And just for the joy of it, I am now working on my fourth novel.

Thanks to a constellation of stars and suns in the firmament of those I now name as friends and helpers, I have been able to dream dreams and achieve goals that once seemed completely out of the question. I am grateful for all the practical advice, kick-butt encouragement, and spiritual inspiration that have been shared with me through the journey. This includes the wisdom I’ve gained from my Remarkable Clients and others who have walked with me along the way. And it is this wisdom that I want to share with all who stop and read. So…enjoy what I have learned. And, whatever hits your heart, take with you.

One last thought… Don’t be afraid to dream impossible dreams. But don’t forget to believe in yourself and pick up those feet and start walking forward. When you do, there will be those on your path who reach out and offer what you need.
